This is an interview with Augusto Pinaud, author of ‘The Writer’, a mystery-thriller.
Tell us a bit about the book
George Mason published the three books that made him famous. His secret is that he never wrote any of them, and when a fourth one shows up he decides to destroy it. That generates an adventure of intrigue, crime and mystery. George runs looking for the missing clues putting his life and the life of those around him in great danger. Will George succeed or be the protagonist of a fifth manuscript?
This is a fast paced thriller, full of twist and adventure.
What inspired you to write this story? What are the obsessions that drive your writing?
I wanted to be a writer since the first time I read the Seven Secrets by Enid Blyton. I just didn’t know how to start. After getting lost in school, books, work and other stuff, I found my writer self again in 2009, this time, I was not willing to let it go. I wrote the original manuscript three times (the first two I deleted the whole file, I hated it)
I read somewhere that writers write because they have no other option. I quit writing for over ten years, and I missed it, I missed writing, I missed dreaming, building, so I honestly write because I have been on the other side, and it is not as fun, I write because I can’t do anything else.
Tell us a bit about you and your writing life
I began writing at 14 and wrote my first novel when I was 18. I didn’t know about re-writing at the time, and was awful, but people push me to get real, to grow up, so I got a Law degree an MBA and went for seven years into Sales and marketing. In 2009, I re-discovered my writer voice, and I have been working into it since then. The Writer is the first thing that I show publicly. I also finished a Novella called ‘Putsch’ that should be out later this year. Right now it is in the hands of an editor, later it will go to beta readers and finally will be re-written and back to the editor. Let’s see how long that takes.
Who are your influences in writing?
I love Enid Blyton, to this day I pick a good book from her. Love Agatha Christie, love Conan Doyle, but also love Michael Connelly, Joseph Finder and a book that keep me into the world inside the pages. I set every year the goal to read 52 books, over the last four had been over 60, in May this year I am already in 26, so I am an avid reader
